There has been a lot of talk about hope recently. But what does hope mean? The dictionary definition of hope is ‘a feeling of expectation and desire for a particular thing to happen’
Not being a football fan I’m not going to mention the World Cup! But there was a lot of hope for a lot of people during that time. Although the doubters would have thought that it was all a hopeless dream!
Having seen the young Thai children on the news yesterday, the courage that those boys must have held on to is extraordinary. How they managed to cling onto hope is beyond our imagination. And there must have been times when some of them thought it was hopeless.
Feeling hopeless, feeling very unhappy because there seems no possibility of a better situation, outcome or success. It would be very understandable for those boys in the cave to feel hopeless. The chances of survival and rescue must have seemed so slim that they were almost unbelievable. But I would imagine that hope pulled them through the dark times.

One of my aims in the work that I do is to inspire hope in my clients. Hope and belief that things can change. Hopeful about an optimistic future when they have let go of whatever is was that was making them feel hopeless.
