The first step is to take one. That may be the first step to finding help with anxiety. Or it may be help with other struggles and difficulties.
The first step is to take one – This is a statement that really resonates with me. It can apply in so many different scenarios. The one that really stood out to me was thinking about it in relation to my clients. Their first step often is to realise that they need help. That in itself can be a major turning point. The next step is finding the right kind of help and then the next one is to reach out, make contact.
I’m always very aware that the first phone call from a potential new client can be so daunting for them. I sometimes imagine that they have maybe thought about doing this a few times before but never quite managed it. But when they have taken that step, that scary step, it can often be that the next step seems easier. I’m not saying it’s easy, but somehow one step can then follow another.
Steps on the road to recovery.
As I write this, I’m thinking in particular about a client I had recently. They took that step to contact me. They were struggling with anxiety that was affecting all sorts of areas of their life. During that first phone call there was an air of despair about how the anxiety was impacting so heavily on their life. They had really realised and accepted that this needed to change and was reaching out. Taking that next step.
Four sessions was all this client needed. Four more steps to move from despair to hope. From despair to realisation that things can be different. That’s what I love about what I do. The change can be very fast and clients are often stunned to feel so different so quickly.
I’m not saying that all clients only need around four sessions, some of my clients I’ve been working with for a little while. Everyone is different, and together we work out what each client needs. One thing that is very clear though is that my kind of therapy is generally a fast, solution focussed programme that can help you to live your life the way you would like to.
I’ve talked here today about a client struggling with anxiety. I work with all sorts of people dealing with all sorts of struggles. I’ve helped people who are tired of yo-yo dieting, had a fear of public speaking, experiencing low self esteem as well as anxiety and depression. The list goes on!
So if you’re thinking about taking a step. A step towards a brighter future. A future were you can live the life you want to live…… take that step…….. contact me for an informal chat to see if I’m the right person for you. Once you’ve taken that step, we can continue to take steps together.
Change is possible today
